Team Members
Principal Investigator: Alejandra Castro González
Entrepreneurial leader I: Claude Yunuen Prud’Homme Barrios
Entrepreneurial leader II: Emmanuel Roberto Sánchez Campos
Business Mentor: Roberto Rocha Miller
This project presents a new way for producing biodiesel from waste cooking oil. This biofuel meets the quality criteria specified at the ASTM-D6751-08 regulation, which has some benefits like assuring 20% more performance in relation to petroleum-based diesel. Therefore, this new process is more efficient, reducing energy consumption and operations time. This is achieved through the optimization of physical, chemical and hydraulic parameters involved in the biodiesel production, resulting on a conversion rate greater than the current 80% from present-day processes.

The current diagnosis of this illness is late, which generates high treatment costs for hospitals and turns out in a poor prognosis for the patient; this causes between 4,747 and 7,740 yearly deaths in Mexico approximately. This team developed a high-tech Multiples Amplification Method (MAP) which is able to diagnose invasive Candidosis in high-risk patients in less than 24 hours, with certainty, and a specificity higher than 80%.
NU-05 Production of iron oxide avoiding the formation of ferrous residues
Team members
Principal Investigator: José Antonio Barrera Godínez
Entrepreneurial leader: Blanca Estela Ramírez Quintana
Business Mentor: Alberto Romo Flores
During the hydrometallurgical extraction of metals, iron is a pollutant residue (up to tens of millions of tons annually), which generates costs for its removal and disposal into the environment. This team developed a process that substitutes the production of iron-derived pollutants for another one that generates pure iron oxide, which is a highly desirable material for the iron and steel industry.

Team members
Principal Investigator: Vanesa Garrido Hernández
Entrepreneurial leader: Daniel Malpica González
Currently the craft beer industry does not have any accessible and affordable equipment to control temperature changes during the fermentation, which is a crucial stage in the brewing process because, a change in a few temperature degrees could affect the beer quality. This team developed a digital system that allows, through instrumentation systems, to control temperature (in homemade fermenters made of glass, plastic and metal) by standardizing the fermentation process in the brewing manufacture. The results is an improvement in the product quality.
NU-10 Capsaicinoids enzymatic production
Team members
Principal Investigator: Alejandro Torres Gavilán

Business Mentor: Elvira Salinas Montoya
Capsaicinoids (chemical compounds present in spicy-hot food) can be used as repellents or pesticides to protect the fields without damaging the environment, as medicine compounds, and as cables additives to prevent rodent bites. Currently these compounds are obtained by direct extraction from chilies, which is a weak standardized and more expensive process. This team’s technology allows for the enzymatic synthesis of capsaicinoids molecules, without generating pollutants nor planting chilies, achieving a purity greater than 95% and a standardized quality.

This project wants to substitute current lithium and lead commercial batteries used in electrical vehicles, for high-performance batteries based on fuel cell technology. This is possible thanks to the cells innovation, because in their inside there are new cathodic and anodic materials (based on transition metals) which carry out the needed electrochemical reactions to produce energy. Furthermore, the hydrogen required is less pure, which reduces the overall costs of this technology. The advantages of these developed batteries are that they are more efficient, lighter, modular, more durable (10 to 20 years lifetime), have more efficient recycling processes, and they offer a greater autonomy per load.
